The Associated Press is STOOPID

Headline: Coroner: USC Kicker Drunk When He Fell To Death

First two paragraphs:

LOS ANGELES -- Southern California kicker Mario Danelo was drunk when he plunged over a cliff to his death, but the cause of his death was "undetermined," according to a coroner's report released Monday.

A toxicological report accompanying Danelo's autopsy report found he had a 0.23 blood-alcohol level, nearly three times the legal limit for driving in California. No drugs were detected in his body, the report said.

Two glaring things here in the first two paragraphs of this [somewhat] sad story. First, his cause of death is undertermined. It doesn't take Sherlock to surmise that homeboy was drunk and fell of a cliff, and that was the cause of his death.

But it is the second bit that really bugs me. Dude had a 0.23 BAC. AP reports that "No drugs were detected in his body." Excuse me? I thought you just said that while 77% of his blood was drug-free, the other 23% was decidedly full of drugs? Since when was alcohol not a drug anymore? Oh, I know, its perfectly socially acceptable to drink and you probably think I am some grass-activist hippie, but alcohol is still a drug... Right?

[All together now, kids:] Yes, yes it is.

Ummm. I'm thinking that BAC of .23 has got to be 2.3% alcohol, not 23%. Not an expert here.

Carry on.
