it's a three-post day

what can I say, finding this in the middle of the afternoon on a work day merits a third post.

Watch more PETA videos at PETATV.com.

I am not sure what she's sellin' (cuz I watched this without the sound so I wouldn't tip off my office mates what I was up to), but I am definitely pro-Peta now.

Of course, I am going to weigh in here with overly serious comment, because I can't just appreciate a little show of flesh.

I support PETA's message, but I think their ad campaigns tend to undermine their purpose by using sexism and other tactics to get people's attention.

So, while I haven't actually watched the ad Josh links to (it wouldn't open on my mac for some reason), I have seen their "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" ads, which I assume are pretty similar.. basically they use objectification of women to convey PETA's message. It's that classic advertising strategy... use sex and women's bodies to sell everything. When we're trying to get people to give a shit about animal's rights, it just seems weird to me to objectify women in the process... but maybe that's just me.

For what it's worth, PETA has also been critized by Mother's Against Drunk Driving for their "Milk Sucks...Got Beer?" ad, and by advocates for missing children for their ads that show pictures of calves in the classic missing person ad from milk cartons. These ads are said to be in poor taste...

I don't know quite what to think of all of this. I get that they are trying to be provocative and get people talking about their ads, but I just don't know how effective it is to build a case for animal rights on top of insensitive jokes and sexualized bodies.
