Weekend update

[Note to self: hit spell-check before posting the first time, you idiot]
Wow, we here at the Domestique just had a great weekend, hope you did too. Here's a recap of mine:

  • Friday, 5:31p.m. -- quittin' time after a long week. 71 degrees outside. so I pedalled around east and west potomac parks until sundown, awesome. Worked briefly on my new bike project, converting my ole centurian ("Titus") to a single speed bike. Then hung out with Steff and Mish' and drank a nice spanish bottle of red, from the catalan region I believe. Steff and I were basically sorry sacks of crap and couldn't be motivated to go out. Sorry mish'.
  • Sat, 7:30 a.m. -- waking up so early is easy when you pass out by 11:30 the night before. Worked briefly on the bike, then hopped on fuji-san and pedalled up to Max's, so we could head out to bumblefart, MD for a footy game. We destroyed the other team. I had to play goalie about 80% of the game, which really sucked. But I am not complaining, the weather was beautiful and I kept a clean sheet. Then we had some kids over for a little BBQ appetizer/tapas/cocktail party out on the ole patio. Tres chic! Great time had by all. Except for me, I actually had a horrendous time of it in the kitchen. I KILLED the tortilla espanola as I went for the final flip out of the pan onto the serving plate... it ended up in a million pieces all over my stove. (People politely ate it anyways, but I was pissed.) Then later, when I was capping off the meal with homemade BBQ sauce marinated tofu steaks on the grill (yes, I too cannot believe I just wrote that with a straight face), I grabbed the little beauties from the grill (again, completely unironic here, they were fucking good), I promptly dropped them all as I stumbled up the patio stairs. All over the brick steps. Covered in shit and dirt and ants. Ruined. So. Fucking. Pissed.

Thankfully, there was plenty to drink and a delicious cake that Steff made. And again, I'm passed out by 11:30.
  • Arise around 8 and just hit titus with all I've got. Stripped everything off, cleaned the bajeesus outta him, and started reassembling in a new image, with 5 less speeds and a new, straight & true set of wheels. I'll post a pic soon, I am sure you are just DYING to see it. Played in another footy game in the afternoon, win 3-1 officially, 5-1 by my count (two nice goals by Max disallowed, one of which I assisted on. We were robbed dammit, robbed). Finished the weekend off with a little BBQ at a buddy's place.
  • I think you get the picture: sunny, 70s, footy, food, friends added all up and tossed well to coat, leads to first really amazing weekend of the summer.

Some much needed comic relief

In such terrible no good rotten times like these, it's good to know we've still got Will Ferrell to make us laugh.

OH. MY. GOD.

Wanna know what the biggest problem with the completely bonkers super-conservative Christian Evangelical Right in America is? They're loaded. Too much money. SO much money in fact, they can blow $27 million on a "Creation Museum" dedicated to showing just how T-Rex and Adam used to drink beers and chase tail together, side by side, back in Eden. I bet they were quite the pair in bars, T-Rex acting as wing-man, willing to jump on the occassional grenade for his BFF Adam. [Editor's note: ladies, if you are not familiar with this wing-man lingo, "jumping on the grenade," please ask that guy friend of yours whom you can trust to deliver the honest terrible truth about the hetero male species but still won't hate as a person because of what he says, I'm pretty sure you all have one of these freinds.]

I highly recommend you read this full article, it is laugh-out-loud funny. You can be damn sure I would pay full admission (unless it involves committing my everlasting soul to Jebus) for this museum. How could I, perhaps the most irreverant person I know, NOT go to something like this? I mean seriously, get a loud of this place:

The museum is based on a literal interpretation of the Bible: The world was created in six, 24-hour days, some time between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago. Humans appeared on Day 6, and they didn't evolve from anything.

And they'll have lots of Dinos, because everyone knows Dinos sell...

Like a natural history museum or an amusement park, the Creation Museum will use people's fascination with dinosaurs as a draw.

There will be 80 lifelike dinosaur models, some of which move their heads and tails and roar.

"The evolutionists use dinosaurs to promote their world view; we're going to use that to promote our world view," Answers in Genesis spokesman Mark Looy said.

Good idea.

Almost as good of an idea as de-bunking that Grand Canyon myth that is rotting the youth's mind.

There also is a reproduction of a portion of the Grand Canyon. The message there is that it was created very quickly, from the waters from Noah's flood. The fossils in rock layers there and in many other places around the world are of animals that drowned in the flood, the museum says.

And I definitely would not miss the planetarium, because I really want to get their take on how the light from God's stars actually moves faster than physic's silly notion about the speed of light:
The museum has a planetarium. But its programs, unlike those at other planetariums, will say that the light from the stars we see did not take millions of years to get here.

Thankfully, someone finally has the courage to get this message out there too, we just don't hear enough of this in today's schools:
There also will be an exhibit suggesting that belief in evolution is the root of most of modern society's evils. It shows models of children leaving a church where the minister believes in evolution. Soon the girl is on the phone to Planned Parenthood, while the boy cruises the Internet for pornography sites.

Says founder and creepy Aussie Ken Ham, "No one else has ever built a place where you can experience biblical history and merge it with the science." Nope, no one. Not even Mr. Ham.
Eugenie Scott, a former University of Kentucky anthropologist who is director of the California-based National Center for Science Education, said the information provided in the museum "is not even close to standard science."

Great freaking news!

Yes, my footballing nerdiness is on full display this week, my friends. And I have no regrets! So why stop the fun? This is probably the best news a Mank fan (see here, definition #3) like me will have until they secure the treble in a few months time: Cris Ronaldo pledges his future to Manchester!! This blog has not been shy about its love for the Portugeuse winger, and will continue to lavish him with praise (as long as he continues to mesmorize and score goals that carry United through games). And now we get to continue watching him at Old Trafford through 2012! Exciting stuff folks! A great kickstart to the weekend. I just hope this whole Friday the 13th thing doesn't put some weird curse on the whole deal. If he goes out and breaks his leg next match, we'll take that as a sign that it did.

And, not only is he one for the gents to admire and attempt to imitate on the field, but chances are the ladies will also find him quite pleasing on the eyes. Behold, "The Angel of Football":

Friday the 13th

Just a friendly reminder to all the Domesticants out there: watch yourselves today. If you see this guy around, alert the authorities and run like hell.

OH LA LA!

UNITED 7, ROMA 1

Wow, while I was wasting away at work earlier this week, Manchester United were putting on a clinic at Old Trafford. Check out these SEVEN FREAKING GOALS! Carrick's are especially pretty. This youtube clip is in French, and after Carrick's second the announcer does this funny "Ohhh la la!" thing, highly entertaining so be sure to watch with the sound on.

Also, Roma's lone goal was amazing. One time volley out of mid-air from di Rossi, who wasn't even facing goal. Yes, this is the same prick that slogged Brian McBride in the face (youtube clip if you need a refresher) with his elbow last Copa.

Enjoy, this is an entertaining 2 and a half minutes.
